چکیده
We present a compilation of PRONAOS-based results concerning the temperature dependence of the dust submillimeter spectral index, including data from Galactic cirrus, star-forming regions, dust associated to a young stellar object, and a spiral galaxy. We observe large variations of the spectral index (from 0.8 to 2.4) in a wide range of temperatures (11 to 80 K). These spectral index variations follow a hyperbolic-shaped function of the temperature, high spectral indices (1.6-2.4) being observed in cold regions (11-20 K) while low indices (0.8-1.6) are observed in warm regions (35-80 K). Three distinct effects may play a role in this temperature dependence: one is that the grain sizes change in dense environments, another is that the chemical composition of the grains is not the same in different environments, a third one is that there is an intrinsic dependence of the dust spectral index on the temperature due to quantum processes. This last effect is backed up by laboratory measurements and could be the dominant one. We also briefly present a joint analysis of WMAP dust data together with COBE/DIRBE and COBE/FIRAS data.

We have analyzed the total and nuclear SED for NGC 4261 and find that the dominant process for the mid-and far-infrared emission in this object is non-thermal emission from the active nucleus. Modeling the emission from the optically detected 300 pc dust disk yields no significant disk contribution at any wavelength. To explain the observations, either the disk has an inflated inner region whic...

We present progress results of a new survey for bright QSOs (V < 14.5, R < 15.4, BJ < 15.2) covering the whole sky at high galactic latitudes, |b| > 30. The surface density of QSOs brighter than BJ = 14.8 turns out to be 2.9 ± 0.8 · 10deg. The optical Luminosity Function at 0.04 < z ≤ 0.3 shows significant departures from the standard pure luminosity evolution, providing new insights in the mod...

Visual and near-infrared colours are used to identify intermediate-age globular cluster in early-type galaxies. In NGC 5846 and NGC 4365 colour-colour diagrams (V-I vs. V-K) reveal a sub-population in the globular cluster systems with an age much younger than the expected old populations (13-15 Gyr). A comparison with SSP models dates the formation of this younger population 2-7 Gyr back. Furth...
